Russian tennis star
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is not ready to call
Iga Swiatek the new
Serena Williams as she feels the American is a "special person" and a "rare athlete."
Iga Swiatek surprised many this year with her superb level and winning capabilities. She is currently on an active 35-match winning streak besting Serena's record from a few years ago. Despite that, noted veteran Pavlyuchenkova is not ready to compare the two players having too much respect for Serena and what she did.
It's only natural because the younger Williams might just be the best tennis player in the history of the game. Nastia said:
"I do not know. Serena is a truly special person, there are very few such athletes in history, especially in women’s tennis."
Pavlyuchenkova herself won't be playing tennis this year anymore after announcing an injury will keep her out for the rest of the year. She is currently recovering.
