World number one broke down in tears after winning the
Madrid Open. The world number one secured a hard-fought win against the current
world number two
Aryna Sabalenka with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 7-6.
After winning the contest, Swiatek broke down in tears as she
finally managed to win her 20th WTA title. She also took a bit of revenge against the Belarusian tennis star after losing the last year's final in
the Spanish capital. Talking after the match, Swiatek was full of praise for the
two-time Grand Slam winner and believes that playing against a player like her ‘motivates’
her to improve her game.
“Aryna.. to many more
finals,” she said right after the match. “Ot’s always a challenge playing you.
Thanks for motivating me and forcing me to be a better player. I want to thank
my team. I’ve had pretty nice speeches before so I don’t know what else to say
to make it feel special. But I think what you saw on court was pretty special
anyway. Thank you for sticking with me through the ups and downs. For
understanding and motivating me.. because without you I wouldn’t be here… I
hope we’re gonna continue progressing. That’s the most important thing at the
end. I want to thank my family who’s watching.”
