Canada’s
Leylah Fernandez shares her intense pre-season
workout. The 22-year-old burst onto the scene in 2021, where she finished as the runner-up in the US Open after losing to Britain’s Emma Raducanu in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-3.
Since then, not much has gone right for the current world
number 28, as she has consistently struggled to consistently produce positive results. In a post on her official account on the social media platform Instagram, Fernandez shared the video of her pre-season in Melbourne for the upcoming season. The post's caption was: “Cheers from the land down under.”
The former world number 13 is currently in the city to
prepare for the first Grand Slam of the next season. Fernandez does not have a
good record while playing in the
Australian Open, where she has never managed to
play in the third round or beyond. In the 2023 edition, she was knocked out in
the round of 64 after losing to America’s Alycia Parks in straight sets with a
score of 7-5, 6-4.
Fernandez did not have a great season in 2024, where she played 53 matches and managed to win just 30, suffering defeat on 23 occasions. She
failed to win any event in 2024. Her most impressive outing was in the Rothesay
International Eastbourne, where she lost in the final to Russia’s Daria
Kasatkina in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
