German tennis player Sabine Lisicki breaks down in tears after winning a title following a lengthy injury layoff.
The 34-year-old suffered from fitness concerns for a long period of time and made her return to professional tennis in 2022 after a gap of four years.
In a video that appeared on social media, Lisicki can be seen in tears after she won an ITF title on Sunday. She defeated Canada’s Stacey Fung in the final of the event with a score of 7-6, 6-7, 6-3. It was her first title in nine years.
The Troisdorf-born has had an impressive start to her career at the highest level and won four WTA titles. It was because of this reason she ended up becoming the world number 12 in 2012 as well.
The highlight of Lisicki’s career came in 2013 when she played in the final of Wimbledon. She ended up second-best against France’s Marion Bartoli in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-4.
Other than that, she also played in the semifinal at Wimbledon in 2011 as well where she lost to the former world number one Maria Sharapova in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-3.
