Italian tennis star Jasmine
Paolini was left confused after fans in the Zhengzhou Open said ‘Ciao’ to her.
The 27-year-old booked her place
in the semifinal of the competition after beating Germany’s Laura Siegemund
with a score of 6-0, 7-5.
During the post-match interview on
the court, Paolini was left confused as the fans in the area said ‘Ciao’ to
her.
Paolini is now set to face China’s
Qinwen Zheng in the semifinal of the competition on Saturday.
It will be the second time when
both players will face off at the highest level. In the previous meeting, it
was the Chinese star who came out on top with a score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-1.
Paolini will be hoping to continue
her winning run in order to finish the year on a high despite a lot of
setbacks.
The Castelnuovo di Garfagnana-born
did not have a great outing while playing at the highest level where despite
playing in the main round of every Grand Slam, she did not manage to qualify
for the third round or beyond in any of the mega events.
Her most notable outing came in
the French Open where she was knocked out after losing to Olga Danilovic of
Serbia in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 7-5.
