Spain’s young tennis star
Carlos Alcaraz is on the verge of having
another season where he will earn $10 million in prize money.
The 20-year-old is often termed as one of the most highly-rated
young tennis players in the men’s singles category along with Italy’s Jannik
Sinner and America’s Ben Shelton. After having an impressive 2023, Alcaraz is now moving
closer to having another season where he will earn more than $10 million in prize
money.
Currently, the world number two has collected $9,647,931 in prize
money this season and he will have a chance to improve that once he takes
the court in the upcoming ATP Finals in Turin. In the last major tournament of the men’s calendar year,
Alcaraz will earn $325,500 as a participation bonus.
He will also have a chance to earn $390,000 for every win in
the competition and therefore, it looks very likely that he will be able to
achieve that $10 million milestone. It will be the second consecutive year that Alcaraz will earn
more than $10 million in prize money as he did that in 2022 as well.
In 2023, only Serbia’s legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic earned more than $10 million in prize money. His total earnings this year
is $11,540,253. Alcaraz became the talk of the town after winning Wimbledon earlier
this year where he defeated Djokovic in a five-set thrilling final with a score
of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
However, since then, not much has gone right for the young
tennis star. In the US Open, he lost to the current world number three Russia’s
Daniil Medvedev in the semifinal while defending his title with a score of 7-6,
6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
Recently, he suffered a shocking exit from the recently
concluded Paris Masters where he lost to Russia’s Roman Safiullin in the final with
a score of 6-3, 6-4.
