Retired tennis great
Andre Agassi expressed his joy at the prospect of participating in the 2024
Pickleball Slam and took some joking shots at opponent
John McEnroe in a recent interview.
Following the success of the inaugural Pickleball Slam earlier this year, it comes as no surprise that a second edition was in the works. The 2024 Pickleball slam will be played at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in South Florida, USA on February 4 2024, with the winners of the doubles exhibition taking home a whopping US $1 million in prize money.
Agassi to team with wife Graf to take on McEnroe and Sharapova
In a recent appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, the eight-time Grand Slam champion spoke about his love for tennis, highlighting how it introduced him to his wife, now-retired WTA superstar Steffi Graf. Additionally, Agassi took some shots at his opponent, John McEnroe, who will be teaming up with former World No.1
Maria Sharapova.
"I'm more grateful for the game, it's given me a platform to change so many lives," said Agassi. "It's given me a platform to meet my wife, my children, my family, I mean, it’s given me the chance to freakin' play pickleball and get paid to do it and take that money away from John McEnroe at the same time.
"So you're saying I can't lose, and you're saying whoever I play with [as coach], we're still going to beat John. I'm into this, okay yeah."
It was revealed during the segment of McAfee's show that former World No.8 Jack Sock will be coaching Agassi's team. Sock has fully embraced the Pickleball culture, participating in and winning a few tournaments over the past year.
