Alongside the ATP Cup, Melbourne will host two ATP 250 events in the first week of February, gathering players who have failed to qualify for the team event.
The 2021 Murray River Open, will be played from February 1st - 7th. Murray River Open gathers a solid field of players, led by two Top 20 stars, David Goffin and Karen Khachanov. Hubert Hurkacz, Jannik Sinner, Reilly Opelka, and Nikoloz Basilashvili complete the Top 40 line-up, with the young Italian and the giant server Opelka looking to spoil the party for the better-ranked opponents and enter the title chase.
Miomir Kecmanovic, Tennys Sandgren, Jordan Thompson, and Sam Querrey also seek a deep run in the last test ahead of the Australian Open that starts a week later. David Goffin already played at the 2021 Antalya Open where he lost to Alex De Minaur in the semifinals.
Karen Khachanov trains in Dubai and will open the season in Melbourne, together with Jannik Sinner and Reilly Opelka, who withdrew from Antalya Open and Delray Beach Open.

- I heartily disagree with Stubbs here. I mean c'mon! The whole idea of giving out wildcards is to give new & up-coming players a chance at getting as much circuit match-practice under their belts as possible. And this is a HUGE must and opportunity for these new kids on the block. Why curtail opportunities for these newbies in favour of stalwart monopoly?? That just isn't fair. At least give these lesser known players a chance to become more familiar at playing in bigger tournaments & give them also a chance of getting the crowds behind these underdogs.
