World no. 1 Novak Djokovic secured one of the available ATP licenses and brought the ATP Tour back to Serbia for the first time since 2012!
Novak bought the license from the Hungarian Open in Budapest and will lead the field at his Novak Djokovic Tennis Center between April 19-25, in the same week with the ATP 500 Barcelona Open. The first four editions of the Serbia Open took place between 2009-2012, with Djokovic winning the inaugural title in 2009 and another in 2011.
The crowd favorite didn't play in the last edition in 2012 when Andreas Seppi lifted the trophy. Novak will seek the third home title next month, alongside two top-10 rivals and seven other top-30 opponents!
Instead in Barcelona, Dominic Thiem will compete in Belgrade for the first time, enjoying his time in the Serbian capital during the Adria Tour and deciding to return and chase the title. If everything goes right, Novak and Dominic should play a blockbuster final if they beat remaining rivals. Matteo Berrettini, Gael Monfils, Stan Wawrinka, Borna Coric and the Australian Open semi-finalist Aslan Karatsev will try to spoil their party and stay on the title course.
Filip Krajinovic, Marton Fucsovics, John Millman, Miomir Kecmanovic, Laslo Djere, Stefano Travaglia, Fernando Verdasco and Jiri Vesely are also on the entry list, hoping to score a couple of wins and stay in the tournament as long as possible.
