The Rakuten Japan Open will take place from October 16-22 at the Ariake Coliseum in Koto, Tokyo.

The ATP 500 tournament is the longest-running ATP event in Asia and one of the longest-running in the Open Era. It began in 1972 and has been played every year with the exception of 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year features some of the Tour's top-ranked players including defending champion and World No. 8 Taylor Fritz, as well as Casper Ruud, Alexander Zverev, and Frances Tiafoe, who are ranked No. 9, No. 10, and No. 11 in the ATP Ranking respectively.

With this level of talent set to fight for the title in Tokyo, along with the likes of Andy Murray and Kei Nishikori, it is no surprise that the prize money purse will go over the $2 million threshold for the first time in the tournament's history.

Moreover, the top-ranked players will be battling it out for a spot in the Nitto ATP Finals which are set to take place in November, meaning that the 500 points on offer for the winner could prove to be vital.

$376,620 has been allocated to the victorious player, while the runner-up will receive $202,640 and 300 ranking points.
