The
draw has been released for the Croatia Open
Umag, set to take place between July 21 and July 27 on outdoor clay courts. The
tournament is an ATP 250 event and will be held at the International Tennis
Center, featuring stars such as
Andrey Rublev,
Lorenzo Musetti, and
Holger Rune
in the draw.
This will be the 34th edition of the Umag Open,
also known as the Plava Laguna
Croatia Open Umag, offering €579,320 in prize
money. The tournament will serve as the final preparation for the Olympic Games
for most players who entered directly into the draw.
Croatia Open Umag draw unveiled
The top four seeds have received byes in the
first round, considering it is a 28-player draw. First seed Rublev (No. 8)
awaits the winner between Argentine Camilo Ugo Carabelli (No. 96) and
20-year-old Luka Mikrut (No. 353), who received a first-round wild card.
Second seed Musetti (No. 16) will face the
winner of a match between two qualifiers in his debut. Holger Rune will face
the winner between Luca van Assche (No. 104) and Fabio Fognini (No. 80). Fourth
seed
Francisco Cerundolo (No. 33) also awaits his opponent, a qualifier or
local wild card Matej Dodig (No. 308), aged 19.
The remaining seeds include Luciano Darderi
(No. 35), Mariano Navone (No. 36), Tomas Machac (No. 38), and Matteo Arnaldi
(No. 39), all of whom will debut in the first round. Defending champion Alexei
Popyrin (No. 43) also returns as a potential favorite, having won his second
professional title last year by defeating Stan Wawrinka in the final.
Notable absences from the tournament include
Brits Jack Draper (No. 26) and Dan Evans (No. 59), who announced their
withdrawals in recent days. Both are preparing for the Olympic Games, arriving
without any prior clay tournaments, as their last participation was at
Wimbledon.
