With the 2024 US Open less than two weeks away, Italian tennis superstar Jannik Sinner is confirmed to be the top seed at a Grand Slam event for just the second time in his young career.
Sinner has been in impeccable form this season, winning the Australian Open in January before obtaining the World No.1 ranking. The 23-year old is a lock to hold onto that position until the start of the final Grand Slam of the year in New York, which kicks off on August 26, 2024.
Former World No.1 Novak Djokovic withdrew from the ongoing Cincinnati Open, where he is the defending champion. The Serbian dropped 1,000 ranking points, and is currently ranked as World No.2. However, Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz is hot on his heels, as the Wimbledon champion will need to reach the quarterfinals in Cincinnati in order to catch up to Djokovic in the ATP Live rankings.
German tennis star Alexander Zverev is fourth in the Live rankings, and a title run in Cincinnati could see him leapfrog to the No.2 spot. Daniil Medvedev will be seeded fifth following his early loss with Andrey Rublev, Hubert Hurkacz and Casper Ruud battling it out for sixth spot. The cutoff date for the US Open seedings will be based on the ATP Ranking table as of August 19, 2024.
