A five-setter like no other at this year's Australian Open between Federer and Millman with Federer coming out on top
Roger Federer had a good start in the Australian Open this year and when
he spoke to the media and said how he felt pretty relaxed on the court. It reflected in his play which hasn't been the greatest but it didn't need to be against the weaker opposition in the first round.
Today he played against Millman and he had a tougher job. Federer started out slow in the first set while his opponent was motivated. The crowd cheering and Millman fed off their energy to take it 6-4. The 2nd set was a proper battle as neither play managed to break their opponent. As it usually happens we ended up in a tiebreak. In it, Federer turned back the clock and was dominant. He won it 7-2 to equalise the result.
The 3rd set was a similar affair as both players played well on their 1st serve. The result was equalised at 4-4 when Federer stepped up his game and broke his opponent. After that, he closed out the set 6-4. We entered the fourth set where Millman again started playing as he did in the 1st set. It culminated in him breaking Roger's serve and taking a 5-3 lead which became a 6-4 set victory.
It was decider time and it was a dramatic one like no other. Many points and game later we arrived at the long tie break. The first one who gets to 10 points wins and it was Roger who won it 10-8. It was a brilliant display as he was 8-4 down just a couple of minutes earlier. But then he rolled back the years and won 6 points in a row to win it.
A spectacular match from both players but Roger still got it even at his advanced tennis age. Will this 4-hour match hamper his chances going forward? Will he be able to recover in time? Only time will tell.
