Carlos Alcaraz is set to overtake
Daniil Medvedev on 'weeks as number one in the world' list in 2023 but another stat makes it even more interesting.
Daniil Medvedev relieved Novak Djokovic of his number one rank but the Russian had the number one spot for only 16 weeks so far in his career. He's going to be overtaken by Alcaraz on that list and that will actually make the Spaniard the player with the 2nd most weeks as number one this decade.
It's been a relatively short decade so far so the number of players that held the number one spot is short and Djokovic leads with 94 weeks so far. Medvedev's 16 are the second-best mark but Alcaraz will eclipse that in 2023 as he won't lose it before the Australian Open. That's the earliest he can lose it.
