"Alcaraz was offered a private jet and rejected it" – Spaniard stays grounded despite rising stardom
ATP
Without a shadow of a doubt, Carlos Alcaraz is one of the most prominent athletes in the world today. The 21-year-old Spaniard has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the top of professional tennis and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Following a quarter-final exit at the Australian Open, Alcaraz is now looking to bounce back at the Rotterdam Open. However, unlike many top athletes, he continues to embrace a modest approach to travel, turning down the opportunity to fly by private jet in favour of a commercial flight, which led to a lengthy wait for his luggage.
Carlos Alcaraz's 2025 so far
As mentioned earlier, Alcaraz is one of the best competitors in tennis today. His all-around skill set and physicalitymake him an extremely tough challenge for any opponent.
After a strong 2024 season, the Spanish star had his sights set on winning his first Australian Open title. However, his run was cut short in the quarter-finals by Novak Djokovic. Now, he turns his attention to the Rotterdam Open, where he hopes to secure a new trophy and build momentum for the rest of the year.

Alcaraz’s arrival in Rotterdam was delayed, as he opted to fly commercially instead of taking a private jet. Upon landing, he waited nearly 90 minutes for his luggage. Spanish tennis journalist Manuel Sanchez reported that Alcaraz had previously been offered a private jet deal for tournament travel but declined the offer.
"A while ago, Alcaraz was offered a deal with a private airline to have a jet to travel to tournaments, and he rejected it," Sanchez posted on X (translated from Spanish).
His coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, also discussed Alcaraz’s humble approach, contrasting it with his time working alongside Alexander Zverev.
"It was a big decision to take. It was the opposite of what I lived with Zverev in the past. It wasn’t a life of private jets and high-standard hotels anymore."

Staying grounded

Carlos Alcaraz
Alcaraz has openly expressed his deep appreciation for his family and their role in keeping him grounded, despite his growing fame and success in the tennis world.
His parents, older brother, and two younger brothers have played a crucial role in shaping his perspective. Their down-to-earth attitude ensures he remains humble, regardless of his on-court achievements. Alcaraz explain this when speaking to The Sunday Times
"Well, my father and my mom have a good role. They try to pull me into the ground every time I win a tournament or I win an amount of money; I’m not gonna lie, I’m not gonna hide. They always stay there to put my feet on the ground."
With his exceptional talent and promising future, Alcaraz is undoubtedly one of the sport’s brightest young stars. His modesty, work ethic, and talent make him a true role model, and it will be thrilling to see what 2025 has in store for the young Spaniard.

- One step by another step -- WTA continues to 'lose the plot'. Too many hi-tech microphones being installed at most venues!!! Remove them (especially those along the hallways, sidewalks, and pathways throughout the venues. Not to mention (most of all) remove the mic's from the Players/Coaches Box.

mandoist06-11-2026 - Don't you just love this young lady!? We fans often expect athletes to be supermen and superwomen, often forgetting that they WILL GET TIRED! I love Alex's perspective. Tiredness for an athlete should never be viewed as a negative, especially if you are healthy, taking care of your body and mental health and putting in the work. What a mature perspective. Good for you, Alex!Rapunzel05-11-2026
- Jess is absolutely correct! But the disrespect is a trait I have noticed in most of the Russian players. Mirra is good but very immature and lacks humility. Conceivable needs to get a handle on that!Rapunzel05-11-2026
- Having spent weeks and weeks through the years on tour, I can say with confidence that Conchita was (is) one of the very few who realize the surprising level of maturity (and sometimes lack of) which Mirra seems to have developed in such a demanding adult world of Pro-Tennis. While at the same time reminding herself (Conchita, that is) that Mirra is still young and developing mentally and physically. The general public may forget at times, or not at all realize, these modern era young athletes do not have a 'normal' Youth. It's a major sacrifice, among countless sacrifices, these athletes must make. People who blow-off that fact are ignorant and unfair when they blurt out, "They choose fame so they have to put up with the intrusions on their lives". No, they do not.
mandoist05-11-2026 - Okay... someone with a camera was EAVESDROPPING on a private conversation. Shouldn't that be the point of discussion here? Regardless of the sensationalist crap by media, Pegula (and anyone) has a right to an opinion. There used to be an expectation that private conversations were respected, regardless of 'stardom' and whatever other defensive excuses media tries to shove in our faces. Boo-hoo if feelings are hurt. BTW: Having been employed at various tourney venues, etc., I can't tell you how nasty and offensive players can be when discussing their opponents and colleagues... in "private". Well, I could, but won't. I also challenge anyone to deny what Jessica said is false.

mandoist31-10-2026 - Osaka's mental state apparently does not allow her to reach any more Quarter Finals? I mean, she doesn't really have the time for tennis with all the pre-planning that must go into her 12 year-old "fashion" goals.
