In a match that saw the Kazakh star showcase his full arsenal of shots, Alexander Bublik upset fifth seed Jack Draper in their round of 16 encounter on Monday. This prompted the fans to shower Bublik with praise in an emotional post-match interview.
The former World No.17 defeated ninth seed Alex de Minaur in a marathon five-set match in the second round, followed by a tricky straight sets win over qualifier Henrique Rocha. Slated to face an in-form Draper, most would assume the British star would find a way past the Kazakh star.

Bublik advances to maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal at Roland Garros

Despite Draper winning the opening set, Bublik displayed some of the best tennis of his career to dominate the top-ranked British star. Dropping to the ground in joy after his 5-7 6-3 6-2 6-4 victory, Bublik's emotion was on full display during his post-match interview on court.
When asked what the moment meant to him by the interviewer, the raucous French crowd gave Bublik standing ovation that lasted for over a full minute before the 27-year old could answer. This led to Bublik being overcome with emotion, as he stood there on the verge of tears before jokingly signaling for the crowd to stop.
"You know, sometimes in life there is only one chance," began Bublik after composing himself. "You know, I had a feeling that was mine & I couldn’t let it slip. Standing here… it’s the best moment of my life. Period."
This caused the spectators to erupt in applause, as Bublik did everything possible to avoid shedding tears. Although the Kazakh star will take some time to celebrate his new achievement of reaching his maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal at Roland Garros, Bublik will have his work cut out for him as he faces World No.1 Jannik Sinner for a spot in the semifinals.
