Alexander Zverev came back after losing the first set 1-6 to win 1-6 6-3 6-1 against world number one Novak Djokovic at the Olympic Games.
Alexander Zverev came into this match highly motivated believing he can defeat Djokovic and after some good early points, it seemed like it could. All of that quickly evaporated as Djokovic ramped up the level in game 3 of the match from where he went on a 5-game run to close out the first set with 6-1.
Djokovic played amazing and Zverev simply did not know what to do. Whatever he tried did not work. At the start of the 2nd set Novak's serve abandoned him a bit allowing Zverev a bit more than before in the match. However, it was the German who lost his serve first giving Djokovic the 2-3 lead.
It seemed like the match is slowly heading towards its conclusion but out of nowhere, the German played his best stretch of several points to break back 3-3. From there he went on a 3-0 run to close out the 2nd set with 6-3 as Djokovic looked like a shell of himself.
His woes continued in the final set as well as Zverev now full of confidence was getting good looks. Djokovic's serve abandoned him completely as he could not hit one to save his life. He quickly went down 0-3 and by then hit only 27 % of his first serves.
Not much changed after that as Djokovi was able to win a game but he was clearly being outplaying by Zverev who was flying around the court. Djokovic himself looked depleted and like a shell of himself. Another break sealed it for Zverev for the 1-6 6-2 6-1 victory.
