Alexander Zverev defeated
Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final of the bett1HULKS Indoors 2020 Cologne and lifted the well-deserved trophy.
Alexander Zverev had a really good week in Cologne and today he capped off that week with another victory and the trophy. The match lasted a bit over an hour and it was Zverev win pretty comfortably 6-3 6-3.
The start of the match set things early and was an example of things to come. Zverev immediately broke Felix to take a 2- 0 lead. The next few games featured a rather calm part of the match as both players served well and won their own service game. The crowd cheered on Zverev and it was evident that he was feeling very comfortable on the court. At 4-2 he played another spectacular game to break Felix once more. He would give it back immediately due to a lapse in focus but determined not to let his lead slip away he broke Felix a third time to end the set 6-3.
The start of the 2nd set brought good play from both players as neither of them gave the other trouble. It wasn't until later on in the set that Auger-Aliassime encountered trouble. Zverev found a way to neutralise his serve and baseline play and broke his serve once more take the 4-2 lead. The crowd was delighted as it became clear that the German would cruise to a victory from that point on. In the end, Zvered ended it with a stellar game once again.
It was a deserved victory for the German who played a perfect match except for the one game he lost his serve. He served well, he played well, he barely lost any points on his first serve. All in all, a valiant effort from Felix Auger-Aliassime but he was simply overmatched in this one.
