Djere is the champion in Sardinia! 🏆 The 25 year old secures his second career #ATPTour title, defeating Cecchinato 7-6 7-5 in the Forte Village Sardegna Open final 👏
Laslo Djere defeated Italian native Marco Cecchinato in straight sets at the Forte Village Sardegna Open to claim his 2nd ATP tour title.
It was a very physical match that lasted well over two hours but in the end, the underdog Laslo Djere defeated Cecchinato on Italian soil to claim his 2nd career ATP tour title 7-6(3) 7-5. The start of the match announced a very interesting match and the rest of the match followed. Laslo Djere broke Cecchinato in the first game taking the lead but it would not last long. Cecchinato came right back to make it 1-1. After those initials breaks, both players settled pretty well into the match-winning their service games without any issues. There was only one more break point until the tiebreak and Djere failed to use it.
The tiebreak would decide the winner of the first set and Djere started off better winning 4 points in a row to take a 4-0 lead. Cecchinato pulled a few back but the damage was done and the Serbian won the tiebreak 7-3 and the set 7-6. It was deserved as he played better than Cecchinato who struggled on his 2nd serve throughout the set. The start of the 2nd set brought more joy to the Serbian who took the 2-0 lead in a great sequence which saw him save break points on his own serve and then used them on Marco's.
It would not last long as Cecchinato fought back to take the 3-2 lead. A marathon game ensued where Djere had several breakpoints that were saved by Cecchinato. Ultimately after some 10 minutes of play Djere finally broke Cecchinato to keep himself in the game. At 5-4 Djere had a match point but Cecchinato saved that to make it 5-5. Cecchinato faced match points once again at 6-5 and while he saved the 1st Djere finally took the 2nd to end the match.
A marvellous display from the Serbian against all odds and a deserved victor against a favoured player on his home soil.
