Alexander Zverev was the first bigger name to step out today and the German played a great tennis match defeating his opponent in straight sets. The first set was a very close set with both players serving well. Neither had any chances until late and it was Zverev who used his chance to win it 7-5.
The German won the winner battle and overall played solid tennis. Sandgren tried to be a bit more aggressive in the 2nd set but he ended up committing more mistakes than winners and that proved his undoing. Zverev posted 9 winners to 2 errors and quickly won the set with 6-2.
The final set was another interesting one as Sandgren returned to some of the stuff that worked early on. He was able to keep Zverev at bay for the most part but the German still found a way to break him. Once he did he focused on his serve which worked well.
In the end, he added yet another break in the final game of the match to win the final set with 6-3. A good start for Zverev who only faced one break point and he did not drop a set in two matches at Wimbledon.
