Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner played an unbelievable 3-hour match that had it all and the German emerged victorious in the end 5-7 6-3 7-6(5).
Congratulations to all of those that made it through this match because it was a 3-hour roller coaster filled with everything. Alexander Zverev jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set and it seemed like 15 minutes in that things would quite smoothly for Zverev. Well, it didn't as Sinner battled back to make it 4-4. The Italian firmly had the crowd behind his back due to the many Italians that live in proximity to Monaco.
Sinner completely turned it around against Zverev who completely fell apart at the end 5-7. The start of the 2nd set still featured a very absent Zverev who lost his serve to start the set. Sinner gifted him life with some cheap errors and rushed play. It proved critical for Zveerv who took a MTO for a leg issue and upon return, Sinner was completely out of rhythm.
Zverev broke the Italian and served out the 2nd set with 6-3. The final set was a superb display of tennis by both players. Sinner did not move well in the final set as he suffered from foot blisters dating back to one match earlier. Sinner made some errors and Zverev took a 2-1 lead with a break. Sinner was out of it and so was the crowd but Zverev brought them back into it with an underarm serve in a game where he lead with 40-15.
He then missed a forehand and double-faulted to give the lead back with the crowd erupting in a roar. Sinner started playing a bit better but he gave his serve away at 3-3 once more. Zverev served for the match at 5-4 but got broken with the match ending in the tiebreak. Sinner was up 4-3 with two serves but in the end, it was Zverev who won it with 7-5.
