Former world number one Simona Halep reflected on losing several grand slam finals and how badly she felt after it.
Halep, 30, suffered a three-set defeat to Maria Sharapova in her first Grand Slam final at the French Open in 2014.
Three years later, Halep made her second French Open final in which
she was beaten in three sets by Jelena Ostapenko. At the start of the
2018 season, Halep made her first Grand Slam final outside the French
Open. Yet again, Halep fell short as she was beaten by Caroline
Wozniacki in the 2018 Australian Open final.
She reflected on those finals and how she felt afterwards saying:
“I lost another final at Roland‐Garros when I was leading the match. It was a very tough moment. For three months, I couldn't be happy, I couldn't enjoy my life anymore. Sometimes in my sleep I woke up crying. I knew I had luck in my hands leading. And then I decided not to give up. I lost another final again, it was in Australia against Wozniacki but I was very close, I had given everything and I couldn't blame myself."
She further said:
"It was there that I also understood that the day would come, so I continued to work and the final after at Roland‐Garros I finally managed to lift the trophy."
In the summer of 2019, Halep lifted her second Grand Slam title at Wimbledon. Thats what she wants to do again hence why she partnered with Patrick Mouratoglou with the goal of winning another one.
