A couple of Americans put forward stunning performances at the
Miami Open today with
Sebastian Korda besting Davidovich Fokina 6-1 6-1 as well as
Caty McNally and
Coco Gauff who advanced in the doubles.
Sebastian Korda was the first American to step onto the courts today and the native Floridian had no issues in besting Davidovich Fokina. Korda had a strong event last year and if this first match is anything to go by he will have another one here. The conditions favour his playstyle and he feels rather comfortable in the hot and windy conditions of Miami.
The Spaniard got outplayed from start to finish and the final score was 6-1 6-1. Joining Korda in the next stages of the event will be Coco Gauff and Caty McNally. The hugely popular doubles pair excited fans with another strong showing after a very strong week in Indian Wells last week. Their opponents were Mihalikova and Peschke and they had no chance.
The first set finished with 6-0 and while the 2nd set opened with a loss of serve for the American combo they ultimately rallied to win the 2nd set with 6-3 as well. A strong start for them as they look to build upon their chemistry from last week.
