A match that promised to be exciting was anything but Cameron Norrie did not bring his best against Rublev who cruised 6-4 6-4 6-4.
Rublev will be very glad to escape this one in straight sets after having to play five in the last round. Cameron Norrie was favoured by many to win this match simply because Rublev has looked shaky in the previous couple of weeks. Norrie was expected to frustrate him with long rallies but the Brit far was too shaky from the baseline to be competitive in this one.
It looked pretty good to start as the Brit was able to win his service games rather easily as did Rublev. The first break point happened late in the set and Rublev was able to take a 5-4 lead and finish it off 6-4. The 2nd set was fairly similar but this time around Rublev was able to take an early lead.
From there it was a rather simple journey to a 6-4 finish. The final set was a bit more competitive but for the most part, Rublev was still on the top most of the time. He took a 3-2 lead midway through but gave it right back after Norrie played a really strong game.
Eventually, the Russian was still able to get on top and finish it off 6-4. A super solid win for Rublev who had 28 winners and 15 errors which is really good for him. His opponent had 26 winners but also 33 unforced errors.
