Jessica Pegula will represent America in the
US Open quarterfinal after a fairly easy win over an erratic
Petra Kvitova 6-2 6-3.
It took Pegula only a bit more than an hour to defeat Petra Kvitova who admitted she was feeling rather fatigued a few days ago. She certainly played that way as she never arrived fully into the match which is a shame for her but not for the American crowd who enjoyed that match quite a bit.
The players actually traded early breaks in this one but after holding from 15-40 down to make it 2-2, Pegula started hitting the ball as well as she has all year long. The American is currently 3rd in the WTA Race demonstrating just how well and consistent she has played.
She finished the opening set 6-3 and continued playing well in the second set as well. Kvitova played a bit better in the 2nd set hitting the ball more cleanly but the American was still able to easily jump out to an early lead and finish it off 6-2.
It was just a poor effort overall from Kvitova who was easily outplayed by Pegula.
