Except it’s not a movie and you won’t watch it because it’s an exhibition tennis event that nobody cares about 👍
Andy Murray has brutally responded to the notion of the so-called Six Kings Slam which is due to take place in Saudi Arabia in October with the trailer for the tournament announced.
Saudi Arabia as part of their Riyadh Season which has swept the sporting world including in boxing in particular will stage the eye-watering tournament which hands Djokovic, Nadal, Rune, Alcaraz, Sinner and Medvedev millions of dollars.
From October 16-19, they are all bagging at least £1.12million just for showing up. A sum that overshadows what Wimbledon semi-finalists got this past summer and perhaps lends itself to a future for the sport with Saudi involvement.
The player who is crowned king claims £4.5m and for Djokovic and Nadal in particular who have received byes, it could be by winning just two games. Sinner pocketed nearly half that amount for instance for winning the US Open earlier this month.
But it seems Murray isn't a fan as he shared barbs again with his friend and often sparring partner on socials, Liam Broady who lauded the trailer. Murray did the same but said nobody cares about the event to which he got replies saying that now this trailer is released they now do. It is an event that divides opinion and also sees the Saudis circumnavigating ATP rules to stage it with a day off in between to allow players to be involved. But it is once again another standout trailer with their forte in particular being the hyping up of these events.
"Speechless as to how damn cool this promo is. Probably best I’ve ever seen in tennis," said Broady on X.
"Would watch this movie. 10/10." he then clapped back. "Except it’s not a movie and you won’t watch it because it’s an exhibition tennis event that nobody cares about," with a sarcastic thumbs up to conclude.
