Andy Murray didn't play at Roland Garros opting for the Surbiton Challenger instead and he'll play in the final against Austrian player Jurij Rodionov.
Murray already has one challenger trophy this year winning the Aix challenger on clay a few weeks ago. Since then his play went a bit downhill but he found his footing again on grass winning a couple of interesting matchups to make his way into the final. He'll be facing a tricky player, one that is certainly capable of beating Murray but Murray himself will still be favoured having played in Surbiton for many years.
Good level
His level is certainly respectable as he tookdown two very good grass players en route to the final. Both were Australians with Kubler falling in the quarter-final and Thompson in the semi-finals. On the match against Thompson, Murray said:
"Nice to get through in straight sets today. It was a very, very tight first set. I improved a bit in the second set, served well and starting the hitting the ball a bit better from the back of the court. The last couple of matches have been good."
Speaking generally on his level, Murray added:
"Jordan and Jason Kubler are very good grass-court players. Very experienced on the surface. To come through both of them is very positive and I get the opportunity to play in a final tomorrow, which will be great. It’s been a while since I’ve won a tournament on home soil. Hopefully, I can do that tomorrow.”
Rodionov in the final
Murray is familiar with the way Rodionov plays as they played last year at the Surbiton challenger and Murray won easily in two sets. The Austrian is a much better player this time around but he's still not as good as Murray on grass.
