Andy Murray sailed into his first final in a while after besting Nick Kyrgios who threw away the match in the 2nd set 7-6(5) 6-1.
Murray and Kyrgios played a very competitive first set where both dominated on their serves. Neither player was able to find a proper breakthrough in the opening set. Both had chances though with Kyrgios having two break points and Murray having one. In the tiebreak, it was Murray who proved more composed, quite literally.
Kyrgios was starting to get agitated towards the end of the set and his meltdown started not long after. He got his first warning after slamming the ball out of the court early on in the tiebreak. After Murray won it 7-5 Kyrgios slammed his racquet into the ground breaking it for his 2nd warning and a point penalty.
He opened the 2nd set down 0-15 and then committed two double faults in that game to lose his serve. He argued with the umpire who turned off his microphone with Murray looking over worried as well. Eventually, Kyrgios got his 3rd warning and a game penalty prompting him to abandon play and asking him for the supervisor.
Eventually he continued playing but it was more tanking than actually playing and Murray cruised to a 6-2 finish for the final against Berrettini.
