Andy Murray avenged his Australian Open defeat to Taro Daniel with a superb display in Doha winning in straight sets 6-2 6-3.
Murray endured a crushing defeat to Daniel at the Australian Open getting beaten in straight sets. Since then, the Briton took part in several events but failed to string together victories. He arrived in Qatar hopeful of getting some victories, especially after a solid showing in Abu Dhabi before the Australian Open. Murray tends to play rather well in the Persian Gulf and that was the case today.
Taking on Daniel, Murray was determined to avenge his loss in Melbourne but it did not start off too well. He missed his first couple of break points which is something that undid him in Melbourne. He broke Daniel at 3-2 to make it 4-2 and then added two more games to finish off the set with 6-2. It took some time for Murray to adjust but once he did he outplayed Daniel easily.
The start of the 2nd set saw Murray lose his serve. He did not get discouraged and battled back immediately to make it 1-1. Eventually, he raised up the bar even further taking a 4-1 lead. The Briton was very well prepared for the match and knew exactly how and where to attack. He exploited Daniel's 2nd serve quite well and it was clear that Murray dissected the Australian Open loss in detail.
He cruised to a 6-2 finish and a strong start to his Doha campaign. Murray looked comfortable and much better than in Rotterdam last week.
