Andy Murray is confident about the state of British Tennis

For a very long time, Andy Murray was the best British player out there but recently several players have stepped up in his absence.

British tennis has struggled for many years and it was only Andy Murray that represented it on the highest level for close to a decade. The country invests a lot of money into tennis and prouds itself with a strong tennis heritage yet that has not translated onto the courts very much. Recently however several players are stepping up which makes Murray confident about British tennis in the future.

Asked about it he spoke about British number one Dan Evans and number two Cameron Norrie:

“Dan’s obviously been doing exceptionally well for quite a long period now. Did very well last year as well and the year before and has a game that suits the grass. Cam has had a fantastic year so far. He’s getting better all the time. I have practised with him quite a lot…and he works exceptionally hard. He’s a very, very fit guy, and has a really good attitude. I’m happy for him, how well he’s doing."

Murray also touched upon Jack Draper who is fantastic talent working on his breakthrough on the tour:

“And then Jack’s one of probably the best young players in the country. He’s got a big game, big left serve, he moves well for his height. He’s going to do really well.”

All of that makes Murray confident about the state of tennis moving forward. For a long time, he was the one carrying it but those days have passed. Asked about his plans moving forward he said:

"It’s a difficult one because ideally, I’d like to play some matches. But at the same time with the bubbles and everything, it’s tricky. So, I’m not sure if I will try and do that or not. But I would think it’s unlikely."

Murray finished it off with:

“You just need to be on the court with the top players and that’s what I’ll try and do the next week, ten days, get out there and play with them as much as possible.”
