Andrey Rublev reached the
NOVENTI OPEN Halle semifinal after a 7-6(4) 6-2. win over Kohlschreiber.
Andrey Rublev improved to 29-2 at ATP 500 events since the season resumed with a straight-sets win over Philipp Kohlschreiber. The Russian played a great match winning the crucial first set with a late surge in the tiebreak. After the match he said:
“I am happy with my performance to reach the semi-finals for the first time. The first set was really tough. He was 3/0 up in the tie-break and I came back, which was the key."
Rublev blasted 29 winners in the match with a lot of them coming in the 2nd set. He read the serve of Kohlschreiber much better which allowed him to hit winners with his return. Asked about the 2nd set which was a convincing 6-2 victory Rublev said:
"After the first set, I think he mentally went down and I was pumped up. I hit a couple of good returns in the first game of the second set.”
Rublev will face Basilashvili next who did well at the event coming from the qualifies. Rublev has a 2-2 H2H record vs the Georgian.
