Andy Murray got his 2nd top 10 win of the season after another great performance this time taking down top seed Jannik Sinner in Stockholm 7-6(4) 6-3.
The Italian elected to play in Stockholm ahead of the ATP Finals in Turin where he will be the first alternative however he will be going to Turin earlier than he expected. Andy Murray arrived in Stockholm hoping to build up some more confidence before the Brit starts preparation for the 2022 season which could be pivotal for him.
This match early on looked like a proper indoor hard court match. Strong serves, short points a lack of break points were the topic early in this match as neither player could quite find a chance to break. There was only one such chance midway through the set when the Italian had a break point at 3-3. Murray saved it with a great serve and we ended up in a tiebreak. In it, it was the Brit who proved slightly sharper winning it 7-4.
In the 2nd set Murray was able to continue playing well taking an early break off of Sinner. He confirmed it by winning his serve and securing himself a 3-1 lead. Sinner was all over the place the entire match hitting error after error. The lost serve came after four consecutive unforced errors by Sinner. In the end, Murray closed it out with 6-3 after another error-ridden game by Sinner.
The Italian turns his attention to Turin now where he might get a chance to play if somebody gets injured. For Murray the quest for the trophy continues for another day.
