Andy Murray returned to the courts and played a superb match to take down recently crowned Montpellier champion
Alexander Bublik.
The match was an extremely close one with both players having chances to win it but Murray was better in several key moments. Bublik did not have his typical enthusiasm on the court playing rather flat which is understandable after winning his maiden trophy only a few days ago. He was still firmly in the match early on. Both had early break points but neither converted.
At 5-5, Bublik found a breakthrough taking a 6-5 lead with a chance to serve out the set. He forced the issue a bit too much and lost his serve to send the match into the tiebreak. In the tiebreak, it was Murray who was more composed. He jumped out to a 3-0 lead winning it with 8-6. It got a bit iffy at the end but Murray was able to win it.
The winning of the first set gave Murray a lot of confidence and his play stabilized. Bublik was not able to create a lot of pressure and Murray was winning service games without any issues. Bublik struggled a bit on his serve and eventually, Murray was able to break him for a 5-3 lead. Murray finished it off with 6-4 for a very solid win.
Overall a very good display by Murray who was very solid on serve. On his opponents 2nd serve he created a lot of chances winning over 50 % of those points. That proved enough today.
