Canada’s
Felix Auger-Aliassime has announced his engagement
on social media. Engagements and marriages in the off-season is a common
practice in the tennis world and it seems that there is an addition to the list
of engagements as well.
The 24-year-old shared a picture of his engagement with his
girl friend Nina Ghaibi in a post on his official account on the social media
platform Instagram. The caption of the picture was: "Couldn't have dreamt
of a better forever.” Auger-Aliassime’s girlfriend, Ghaibi, is a Croatian citizen
born in the United States. The couple met through an Australian tennis player Ajla
Tomljanović.
Auger-Aliassime has recently had a mixed 2024 campaign. The Montreal-born
star played in 53 matches, where he won 29 and suffered defeats on 24 occasions.
His best appearance this year in a mega-event came at the Madrid Masters, where
he finished as a runner-up after losing to Russia’s Andrey Rublev in the final
with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.
In the Grand Slams, his season would be termed as a
disappointment as despite playing in the main round of every major event, he
failed to play in the quarterfinal or beyond in any one of them. His best
appearance in a major event this year came in the French Open where he was knocked
out after losing in the fourth round to world number three Spain’s Carlos
Alcaraz in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-3, 6-1. Overall, the highlight
of the season for Auger-Aliassime was his performance in the Pais Olympics
where he performs well, both in the singles and mixed doubles category. He
ended up winning mixed doubles bronze medal with his partner Gabriela Dabrowski.
