Bianca
Andreescu updated her fans on her health status as she gets ready for the 2025
season. The 2019
US Open champion faced injuries again this year that prevented
her from showing her best level. Despite some notable victories, the few
tournaments she played left her ranked World No. 131 in the year-end ranking.
The former
World No. 4 has been working with a ‘high-performance specialist’ in recent
months to overcome the injuries. The 24-year-old player still hopes to
demonstrate the level that made her one of the biggest surprises to win a Grand
Slam title.
Andreescu’s journey back to her best form ahead of 2025 season
Andreescu
has struggled particularly with back and wrist issues, which have led to
several surgeries over the years. During her off-season, the Canadian shared a
video on Instagram showcasing her training and practice session. "Been
working with @phenom_doc [Dr. Cowan] for a few months now and I'm looking and
feeling amazing! taking my health and performance to a new level."
Dr. Cowan
has worked with major athletes from the NFL and UFC, helping them recover from
injuries. Even as a player with many years ahead in her career—indeed, 34 of
the top 50 ranked players are older than Andreescu.
Earlier
this year, Andreescu shared in an interview with Match Point Canada about her
struggles with injuries. "I totally don't feel like my body is 23 years
old because of all the injuries, I've been very unlucky,” she said.
“The
universe likes to test us in different ways. The hardest test of my life is
dealing with physical injuries, in addition to the mental health problems,
which in a way go hand in hand. I don't regret any of them, I have learned a
lot about myself through the challenges I have had to face more than through
the victories and happy times."
