"Anybody that can date Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, you got to respect" says John Lloyd on Dimitrov, believes he could've been like Agassi

Former Britain’s tennis player John Lloyd believes that Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov had the personality to attract woman but was not able to take the next step because of his on-court performances.

The 32-year-old, who turned pro back in 2008, has never managed to win a Grand Slam. His best outings in the mega events were playing in the semifinal of Wimbledon in 2014, Australian Open in 2017 and the US Open in 2019.

Lloyd, while talking in a 'Rock n Roll Tennis' podcast, stated that Dimitrov, who once dated former world number one Serena Williams and Russia’s Maria Sharapova, could’ve become the next Andre Agassi in terms of his of-the-court activities but was unable to do that because not achieving great results on the field.

"I’m just looking at it from a media side, we need people like that,” he said. “To me, it just makes our sport, it just goes above the level that its at and you get superstars that, people that don’t even particularly like tennis know, like Agassi, he was a crossover star.

"One who could have been in that Agassi-Borg ilk but he hasn’t won enough but if he’d won enough, he could’ve been, is Grigor Dimitrov. He does have a lot of personality and he’s very charismatic, he’s a good looking guy, he’s funny, he’s got a good sense of humor," he said.

"He’s had a few high-profile relationships. I mean, anybody that can date Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams, you’ve got to respect that. Holy cow, that’s a pretty big duo and then of course he was with Nicole Scherzinger. He’s kind of flirted with it but he’s not a good enough player to make that next jump.”

It is believed that Dimitrov is currently dating actress Madalina Ghenea who has been seen sitting in the stands during his matches.
