Argentina makes Final 8 at ATP Cup after defeating Croatia

Argentina defeated Croatia in the last tie of the Group E to secure the spot among the Last 8 at the 2020 ATP Cup in Australia.

Before the tie against Croatia, Argentina was last in the group with score 2-4. Before they defeated Poland 2-1 but lost to Austria 0-3. But as every tie is important at the 2020 ATP Cup, they had still a chance to advance and they used it perfectly.
In the first match, Guido Pella faced Marin Cilic and he was the outsider in the match as the Croatian won in both of his previous appearances in Sydney. But this time, Pella was more successful. He defeated Cilic 7-6 and 6-3 after less than 2 hours to give his country the lead.
Diego Schwartzman followed up on the success of his countryman as he broke the streak of 4 lost matches in a row. The small Argentinian defeated Borna Coric 6-2, 6-2 in just 77 minutes and secured the spot between the Final Eight for his country.
In doubles, Argentina confirmed their dominance in this tie, as they denied Croatia's last chance to advance from the second place. Gonzalez & Molteni defeated Dodig & Mektic after they were down 3-6 and faced 2 breakpoints in the second set. But they have won it in the end and added also the victory in the super tie-break to win the tie against Croatia 3-0 and secure the first place in the group.
In the quarterfinal, Argentina will be facing the winner of Group D, Russia. During the group stage, Russia lost only one match and so they will be a very tough opponent for Argentina.
