French tennis star
Arthur Fils has become the latest
big-name player to withdraw from
Wimbledon 2025. The third Grand Slam of the
year will begin on June 30 in London. According to the report, Fils will
not feature in the upcoming edition of the mega event.
Fils recently featured in the French Open, where he was
forced to withdraw just before the start of the third-round encounter against
Russia’s Andrey Rublev after suffering a stress fracture in the back. He
suffered the injury during the second-round win against Spain’s Jaume Munar in
a five-set thriller with a score of 7-6, 7-6, 2-6, 0-6, 6-4.
Fils has only featured twice in the main round at
Wimbledon. His best outing while playing in the mega-event came last year,
where he was knocked out after losing to Australia’s Alex de Minaur with a
score of 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Fils became the third high-profile men’s player to
withdraw from the grass-court Grand Slam.
Earlier, America’s Sebastian Korda and Australia’s Nick
Kyrgios have also withdrawn from the tournament. Korda, in a statement released
on his official account on Instagram three days ago on June 18, announced that
he would miss the rest of the grass-court season because of a stress fracture
in his shin. “Unfortunately no Wimbledon for me this year,” wrote Korda.
“Stress fracture in my shin during the clay. Been a tough 12 months, but better
days ahead.”
On the other hand, Kyrgios also announced his withdrawal
from the competition in an Instagram post. The 30-year-old has failed to
recover from a knee injury which also kept him out of action from the French
Open earlier this year. “Unfortunately, I won’t make it back for grass season
this year,” wrote Kyrgios. “This is just a bump in the road... I’m already
working hard to get back stronger.”
