The ATP and the organizers of the Washington Citi Open have announced they have canceled the event due to ongoing uncertainty because of the pandemic.

The Citi Open was a tournament that was scheduled to begin on August 13 in Washington. It was the first event that would take place as part of the season resumption plan. However, with continued uncertainties affecting the ability to meet key event planning deadlines, the decision has been made to cancel the event.
ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi commented on the decision:
“It’s disappointing that due to these unprecedented times, the Citi Open will not be able to go ahead this year."
The Chairman of the Citi Open Mark Ein also gave a brief comment on the decisions to cancel the event:
“After months of tireless work by our team and close collaboration with our many stakeholders, we are heartbroken to announce that we must, unfortunately, postpone the 52nd Citi Open until the summer of 2021."
It's not yet known what this means for the US Open in particular but it can't be considered a positive development. The statement briefly mentioned that the ATP continues to work on a revised 2020 calendar and updates will be given as soon as the decision will be made.
