Formula One had a very successful documentary series in partnership with Netflix called 'Drive to survive' and tennis is doing a similar thing.
Netflix has been a global phenomenon for a few years and one part of that is their catalog of offerings which includes something for everything. Recently they paired up with Formula One for a documentary series called Drive to survive where they took a look at the inner goings of the extremely popular racing sport.
The documentary proved very successful bringing in a lot of new fans, especially younger ones and now tennis is looking at doing something similar. The news was confirmed by ATP chief Andrea Gaudenzi who briefly commented on the matter saying:
“We are working on something similar with the WTA and the Grand Slams. I cannot give more details because it is confidential for now. We want to create a studio, create more content. The young generation wants to see the matches, of course, but also what (Stefanos) Tsitsipas does in the evening, for example."
It's an interesting idea for tennis as a sport in terms of bringing in new fans and it could prove successful. It does seem quite some time away so tennis fans should not expect it to come soon. Either way, it's something worth noting.
