ATP Finals going 'nowhere': Confirmed to stay in Italy

The ATP Finals is set to remain in Italy for another five years. The mega-event, which has recently been concluded in Turin, featured top-eight players in the world in men’s tennis in the singles category.

During the competition, there were news that the ATP might consider moving the tournament away from Turin or may be from Italy to increase the ticket sales. However, ATP Tour President Andrea Gaudenzi confirms that the tournament is set to stay in Italy for the next five years. "The ATP Finals will remain in Italy for another five years," he said. Earlier, the tournament’s license was awarded to Turin till 2025.

In this year’s competition, it was the world number one Jannik Sinner who came out on top in and lifted the title after beating America’s Taylor Fritz in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4. It was Sinner’s third major title this year. He first lifted the Australian Open after beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. He then lifted the US Open after beating Fritz in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 7-5.

With that triumph, Sinner achieved a lot of milestones. The 23-year-old, who is already regarded as the best player currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category, became the first Italian player to lift the ATP Finals. He also became the third player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category in the Open era to lift the Australian, US Open and the ATP Finals in the same year. The other two players were Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and Switzerland’s Roger Federer. Sinner also became the first player since 1986 to win the ATP Finals without losing a single set.
