The week
leading up to the 2024 Australian Open still features the Adelaide
International, an ATP 250 event scheduled to take place from Monday, January 8,
to Saturday, January 13, at the Memorial Drive Tennis Centre, offering a prize
money of $661,585.
The main
draw will include several prominent players seeking to enter the Australian
Open in good competitive form, with eight players who will be seeded at the
Aussie Open. The top contenders include American
Tommy Paul (world No. 13),
Chilean
Nicolas Jarry (No. 18), young Italian Lorenzo Musseti (No. 25), and
Argentine Sebastian Baez (No. 26).
The
defending champion is Novak Djokovic, but he will not participate in the
tournament this time as he is in Melbourne, making final preparations for the
Australian Open while recovering from physical discomfort experienced during
the United Cup. The 2023 finalist Sebastian Korda (No. 29) will be part of the
tournament and is the third seed, despite a recent ranking descent, given that
the entry list closed a couple of weeks ago.
