Denmark’s young tennis star Holger Rune has expressed his excitement to work again with his childhood coach Lars Christensen. The 21-year-old is often regarded as one of the most talented players currently playing in the men’s singles category but does not have the on-court numbers to show for it.
Rune has struggled with his coaching staff. In the recent past, he worked with the former world number one Boris Becker as well but his partnership ended after series of unimpressive performances. Recently, it was announced that the current world number 14 is now set to work with his childhood coach Christensen. The Gentofte-born was recently quoted in a report where he expressed his excitement of working with the coach who helped him establish his foundation in his early age.
“I am happy to work with Lars again,” he said. “We have known each other for many years and have developed our very own tennis language together. During the past month, I have trained a few times with Lars when I have been in Denmark, and it has, among other things, had a really good effect on my serve.”
Rune’s most recent appearance came in the Shanghai Masters where he was knocked out after losing in the round of 16 to America’s Taylor Fritz in the round of 16 in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-2. The current world number 14 does not have a great year where he suffered 21 defeats in 38 matches. His most impressive performance this season came in the Brisbane International where he ended up as a runner-up after losing to Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in the final in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-4. Rune did not have a great Grand Slam season as well. His best outing in a major event came at Wimbledon and the French Open where he was knocked out from the fourth round.
