Former world number one
Boris Becker has warned other stars
in men’s tennis about Britain’s
Jack Draper. The 23-year-old is already
regarded as one of the most talented players currently playing in men’s tennis.
Draper secured the biggest title of his career on Sunday as
he lifted the Indian Wells title after beating Denmark’s Holger Rune in the
final in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2. It was his first ATP 1000
title in his career. With that win, he becomes only the second British player
after Cameron Norrie. He lifted the title in 2021 after beating Nikoloz
Basilashvili in the final with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Former world number one Becker has warned other players of
Draper’s talent. He shared his thoughts in a post on his official account on
the social media platform X — previously known as Twitter. "I like
@jackdraper0 So well spoken , educated, humble and a beast on the tennis 🎾
court ! I want more from him rest of the year … Be aware @janniksin @AlexZverev
@carlosalcaraz ! @atptour,” he wrote.
Talking after the match, Draper stated that he is ecstatic
after securing the triumph. "It's incredible. I wasn't expecting
this," he said. "I've put in a lot of work over time and I'm just so
grateful and so happy to be out here to be able to play, my body being healthy,
to feel great in my mind. All the work I've done over the last few years feels
like it's coming together on the big stage and I can't put that into words. I
feel like I deserve it, in all honestly," Draper said of the milestone.
"The amount of adversity I've been through, the amount of sacrifices, the
amount of time that all the people around me have put into me and the hard
work. It's an emotional feeling to know how much you've gone through and put
in, and to be here now to say that I'm going be No. 7 in the world tomorrow, I
can't tell you how much that means to me."
