Novak Djokovic still has a chance to go for the calendar grand slam this year after winning the first two grand slams of the year but Boris Becker warned him about doing the same mistake as he did a few years ago.
It's not the first time Djokovic can go for a calendar grand slam as he nearly got it done a few years ago. In 2021, Djokovic made it all the way to the US Open final after winning the first three grand slams of the year. He was facing Daniil Medvedev, a player who never won a grand slam before and it seemed like history would be made.
It didn't as Djokovic crumbled under the tremendous pressure and Becker believes it was because he embraced it as a goal and something he wants to do. Doing that again would be a mistake:
"It would be a mistake, from his point of view, to make it obvious now. Because you know what happened last time: He won three, was in the final and then couldn't stand the nervous strain. That's why he should really only concentrate on Wimbledon."

It's a goal

Even so, Becker, who used to coach Djokovic, knows full well that it's a goal for the Serbian. He will want to get it done but according to Becker, he should just focus on Wimbledon now and worry about the US Open later.
"But the man wants to break records. I don't know which one he can still break, the calendar Grand Slam in one year, that's maybe the only one still outstanding. 100 per cent, he's thinking, but I hope he won't talk about it and just go out on the grass, try to win Wimbledon now, and then the US Open will come at some point."
