Daniil Medvedev is still dreaming about becoming world number one and while the Russian won't do it in 2021 he still believes in himself.
It's been a sensational season for Daniil Medvedev in 2021 with the Russian climbing all the way up to number two in the rankings. He was also able to win his first grand slam trophy as well and he did it by defeating Novak Djokovic in the US Open final. Many believed it a crowning moment for Medvedev but the Russian is still looking for the number one spot on the ranking.
He said:
“Becoming the No 1 in the world is still the goal. Though
Novak did not play several Masters this year, he won three Slams and was
in the final of the fourth, so it is logical that he is still No 1. If I’ll catch up with him this year, excellent, but if not I will try to do it down the road.”
Medvedev also touched upon his US Open triumph over Djokovic explaining:
“For me experience is the key. In 2019 I was in the final of the US
Open, but I did not win. And this year, I was in the finals of Australia
also. This experience helped me in the final of the US
Open.”
The Russian finished off by simply saying he was to be the best version of himself:
My biggest goal is to work and be the best version of myself in every tournament, whether a Slam or a 250 event.”
