During the sixth day at the Moselle Open, we saw 2 semi-final matches in which three Frenchmen played, but only one advanced to the finals.
Home player Benoit Paire and
Aljaz Bedene met in the first semifinal match. Slovenian plays in a great shape, when he lost only one of the last 14 matches. In one of these matches he managed to beat Benoit Paire 3-2 at the US Open.
But the match in Metz began better for Frenchman. He broke Bedene, who gave up 27 aces in the previous match with Carreno-Busta, in the 9th game of the first set and then won it 6-4. In the following course of the match, however, Slovenian already dominated, winning the second set 6-1 and the third 6-2. In the final he will be able to fight for his first ATP title. After the match Bedene said:
“Benoit is a tricky player. He was really serving well in the first set. He served a few double faults at the beginning of the second and then I started to play, serve and feel better and I felt more like previous matches. Overall, I feel very good.”
That Bedene's rival in the finals would be French was clear before the start of the second semifinal match. Lucas Pouille and
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga met in the second semifinal match. Former world number five continues to gradually return to the elite when he has won nine games in a row.
In the match between Tsonga and the fourth seeded Pouille we saw no break. The only break ball in the entire match had Pouille in the seventh game of the first set, but he didn't use it. Tsonga managed to win both sets in a tie-break. He won the first 8-6, and the second 7-4, now he will be fighting for the second title in a row in the France.
