Rising star
Ben Shelton played his first match on clay and he proved pretty good taking down Constant Lestienne in two sets 7-5 7-5.
Shelton has not played on clay ever but his first match proved quite solid taking down a much more experienced player in Lestienne. The French player prefers hard courts to anything else but he's played many more matches on clay compared to Shelton but the American was able to power past him through his talent.
The first set was pretty close but Shelton simply played the crucial rallies better. He saved the only break point he faced in that set while Lestienne didn't. We actually saw more play on the serve of Shelton indicating that he had some minor issues on his serve but he used the rare chance he got and took the set 7-5.
The second set opened with an early break for Shelton but he would give it away as Lestienne found some solutions. Still, the American applied heavy pressure on his opponent and eventually got it done in the second set as well 7-5. He saved some huge break points in that second set to get it done.
