Berrettini Aus Open
Matteo Berrettini defeated Lloyd Harris 6-4 7-5 while Kecmanovic routed van de Zandschulp 7-6(3) 7-5 to move on.
Matteo Berrettini returned to tennis this week after missing some time with injury and he is playing rather good tennis. He took on Lloyd Harris and the match went largely as expected. Both players were quite dominant on their own serve as they generally have very strong first serves. The first set, as expected, ended after only one break with Berretitni taking it 6-4.
The 2nd set opened much better for Harris who jumped out to an early 4-1 lead. It seemed like the South African would be able to send the match into a 3rd set however Berretitni rallied late in a spectacular fashion to end the match in two sets. He was up 5-2 with two sets points on Berrettini's serves but the Italian saved that, and went on to win 5 games in a row to close it out with 7-5.
Joining him in the next round will be Miomir Kecmanovic who has quietly assembled quite a good year so far. The Serbian started off well in Australia and never stopped playing very good tennis and it continued this week in Indian Wells. He took on Botic van de Znadschulop and while the match was really close, Kecmanovic had firm control for the better part of it.
He won the opening set with 7-3 in the tiebreak and jumped out to an early lead in the 2nd set. The Dutch player fought back but eventually, Kecmanovic was still able to take it 7-5 to move on.
