Matteo Berrettini followed up his great win over Alcaraz with another win over a Spaniard, this time taking down
Pablo Carreno Busta 7-5 7-6(4) 6-4.
The final quarterfinal spot goes out to honorary Australian Matteo Berrettini who enjoys quite a bit of support having an Australian as his partner and it proved very helpful in all the matches he played so far. Against Pablo Carreno Busta he proved comfortable once more on the court controlling the match rather well. Key as always was his serve which worked to perfection.
Every time he faced a tricky situation he was able to find a big serve and the Spaniard was left frustrated on multiple occasions. The first set ended on a very lucky note for Berrettini who got a couple of lucky bounces in that game. The final one gave him 3 consecutive break points and Busta was not able to wiggle himself out of it.
The 2nd set followed a similar blueprint to the first set as both players were able to win their service game. Both controlled it well and we saw very few chances to break. It ended in a tiebreak where Berrettini once again outplayed his opponent to win it. The third set was another similar one. Once again, rather comfortable service games.
That is until the final game of the match where the Spaniard showed some nerves allowing Berretini a break point. He converted it by forcing Busta to make a mistake which he did and the match ended. Up next for the Italian is Monfils and that should be another great matchup.
